Police seek suspects in Kingston shooting

KINGSTON — A New York City man was in critical but stable condition at Albany Medical Center after being shot in the face Saturday morning on Henry Street in Midtown Kingston, according to a city police official.

Detective Lt. Timothy Matthews said officers responded to a call of “shots fired” in the vicinity of 36 Henry St. around 11:08 a.m. While they were investigating, Kingston Hospital called the police department to report it was treating a man for a gunshot wound, Matthews said.

“He was shot in the face with a small-caliber handgun,” the detective said. “He was initially treated at Kingston Hospital, but the wound was serious and he was flown to Albany Med by helicopter.”

Matthews said the man, who is 44 and from the Bronx, drove himself to Kingston Hospital and is likely to face criminal charges because police believe he was in possession of a recently fired sawed-off shotgun during the incident. The shotgun was found at the scene of Saturday’s shooting, Matthews said.

Matthews did not provide the victim’s name or discuss a possible motive for the shooting.

No one had been charged in the case as of late Saturday, but Matthews said police were following leads that could result in up to four arrests.
