Totten earns Sportsman accolade

Red Hook High’s Dan Totten provided the crucial points for the Raiders boys basketball team in the Section 9, Class A tournament.

Totten’s free throws in the closing seconds helped to clinch Red Hook’s 45-44 win over Cornwall in the sectional championship game.

The junior forward is the Freeman Sportsman of the Week.

Totten’s winning points came with 26.4 seconds remaining and the Raiders’ undefeated season on the line.

He sank both attempts and Red Hook hung on for the win, their 21st of the season, when a potential game-winning basket by the Green Dragons bounced off the rim.

Totten, who had only two points at halftime, scored 13 in the second half for a team-high 15 in the win.

His final line included six field goals and a 3-for-4 performance at the foul line.

Totten chipped in with 11 points in the Raiders’ 78-42 victory in the semifinals against Saugerties.

In the quarterfinals, he led a quartet of players in double figures with 19 points (and 15 rebounds) in Red Hook’s 74-47 triumph over New Paltz.

Totten also had 18 points against Coleman Catholic in the Mid-Hudson Athletic League championship game.
