KINGSTON – A bedbug extermination specialist has been hired to attack the parasitic insects crawling around the city’s Police Department.

Police Chief Gerald Keller said Pestmaster Services of Kingston, based on Lucas Avenue, will perform the  extermination.

The company was hired, Keller said, after the firm brought in a bedbug-sniffing dog that found bedbugs and eggs in the department’s interior offices, which are not public areas.

Keller said one bug was found by officers Friday morning and another on Thursday, so he decided to bring in the bedbug-sniffing dog Friday afternoon.

The police chief said  another exterminator, who has regularly inspected the police department for the past 15 years, had sprayed the area of the building where the bedbugs were found. But the bugs are still showing up, he said.

“This bedbug situation is a little more tougher to handle,” Keller said.

Keller said he was hopeful hoped that the extermination could be done Friday night, but said it might have to wait until Tuesday.
