Hyde Park police say burglaries in town increasing

Thursday, February 23, 2012

HYDE PARK, N.Y. — Hyde Park police are warning residents of an increase in home burglaries in the town.

Lt. Robert J. Benson said police responded to eight burglaries or attempted burglary complaints in the last month.

Benson said residents of Creek Road, East Dorsey Lane, Lyons Drive and Cardinal Road reported thieves broke into their homes and stole jewelry, sterling silver flatware, laptops, GPS units, cameras and U.S. currency.

Benson said these types of crimes tend to increase during times of economic downturn, but urged residents to secure their homes and lock their cars, especially at night.

Benson also urged residents to call police if they see someone or something suspicious in their neighborhood. He said they should call Hyde Park police at (845) 229-9340 or Dutchess County Emergency Center at 911.
