Log home sales center to open again in Saugerties
SAUGERTIES, N.Y. — A closed log home sales center that is visible from the southbound side of state Thruway in Saugerties will once again be put to use.
The local site was purchased by eLogHomes, a manufacturer of log home packages and materials that is based in Middlesex, N.C., the company announced in a press release Wednesday. The release said the sales center will have four log homes on display in the coming months and the company was expecting to create several jobs, including sales representatives, sales manager and administrative personnel.
“When selecting eastern New York as a location for our sale center, eLogHomes chose to reclaim and restore a pre-existing facility, rather than clearing and developing forest or farm lands,” company Information Officer Michael Wild said in the release.
On Thursday, Wild said the company hoped to have the Saugerties site operational within 60 days and company representatives planned to be on site at the end of next week to schedule interviews with job seekers.
The Saugerties site was once owned by AmerLink/In The Woods, which filed for bankruptcy in December 2008, Wild said. He said his company is completely separate from the previous owners.
When it opened in Saugerties, AmerLink/In The Woods was owned by Richard Spoor. Wild said Spoor was a shareholder in the company but no longer involved in its operations when the company went into bankruptcy. He said Spoor works for eLogHomes, but is not a principal in the company.
The Better Business Bureau lists Spoor as the president of eLogHomes, which Wild said is a mistake.
Wild said there are other former AmerLink personnel working for eLogHomes. He added, though, eLogHomes became aware of the Saugerties property through Spoor. Spoor had been approached by a real estate agent to help find a buyer for the site, a contract that ended in 2011, Wild said. He said eLogHomes waited for the market to be right before purchasing the site.
The purchase of the Saugerties center “continues the company principle of maintaining the smallest possible imprint on our environment,” according to the press release. “eLogHomes reclaiming the log home center will also bring back hourly, commissioned and salaried jobs to the area that disappeared when the previous owners closed the facility in late 2008.”
