Lake Katrine man accused of violating order of protection, assault

LAKE KATRINE, N.Y. — A 27-year-old Lake Katrine man was arrested Wednesday following a violent domestic dispute at the 9W Motel, police said.

Juan T. Diaz, of 1808 U.S. Route 9W, was charged with felony criminal contempt and misdemeanor assault. He was arraigned in Ulster Town Court and sent to Ulster County Jail in lieu of $5,000 bail.

Ulster town police said that at about 1:10 a.m. officers went to room 8 at the motel for a report of a violent domestic dispute called in by the female victim. On arrival, the officers found Diaz had fled on foot into a wooded area behind the motel, police said. Police said officers followed him on foot and arrested him without incident.

The victim, a 28-year-old, was taken to Kingston Hospital by Mobile Life ambulance where she was treated for facial bruises.

Police said Diaz’s actions had violated an order of protection issued in December 2011.
