Monroe-Woodbury sweeps Kingston in track
KINGSTON, N.Y. — Taariq Jones won three events and Qiyam Green captured two, but Kingston High’s track and field teams were swept in a dual meet by Monroe-Woodbury Tuesday at Dietz Stadium.
Monroe’s boys won 84-57, while the Crusaders beat Kingston’s girls 99-43.
Jones won the 100 in 11.0 seconds, the 200 (22.8) and the 400 (49.6) and ran the anchor on the victorious 400 relay (44.2) with Green, Orion Brown and Myles Santiago.
Green also won the high and long jumps, clearing six-feet and 40-8, respectively.
David Carlson picked up a win in the discus with a 43-8 toss. Randy Hinds, Carlson and Justin Watson swept the top three spots in the discus. Hinds won with a 149-2 throw.
Brittany Roser, Sara Flores, Rachel Longendyke and Destiny Johnson won the 400 free relay in the girls meet with a 50.1 time.
Johnson also won the 100 dash in 12.8, while Flores took the 200 (26.3) and Longendyke the long jump (16-1).
Valerie Hinds placed first in the shot put for Kingston with a 35-7 1/4 throw. Madison Suardy took the discus with a 99-2 1/4 effort.
Kingston is home again Saturday when it hosts the seventh annual Tiger Relays.
