Ravi Thackurdeen, the 2010 valedictorian at Marlboro High School and a member of the Swarthmore College Class of 2014, has drowned in Costa Rica, according to the president of the Pennsylvania college.

Thackurdeen — who was  visiting Costa Rica was his parents, brother and other family members — was reported missing on Sunday after being pulled out to sea while swimming in the Pacific Ocean, and his body was found on Tuesday, Rebecca Chopp said.

Chopp characterized Thackurdeen as “a remarkable and accomplished young man.”

Marlboro school district Superintendent Raymond Castellani said Thackurdeen was “a special young man who had the potential to do anything he wanted in the future.”

Castellani said Thackurdeen was “always looking to do something big and great in the world, and I truly believe we had someone taken away from us who could have made a difference in the world.”

Chopp said Thackurdeen  was interested in public health, preventive medicine and ethnomedicine.
