Rosendale residents can get break at YMCA
KINGSTON, N.Y. — While Rosendale’s pool is closed for the summer, the YMCA of Kingston and Ulster County is offering town residents a special summer membership at a reduced cost so they can still go swimming.
YMCA Aquatics Coordinator Mark Johnson said that while anyone can purchase a monthly membership to the YMCA, Rosendale residents will be able to obtain a summer membership for use of the facility in Kingston, including the pool, at a reduced cost. He did not specify what the cost reduction is.
“They can come as much as they want and use as much as they want,” Johnson said. He added that the YMCA offers a variety of classes, including swimming lessons for anyone ages 6 months and older. Registration for the swim classes and other courses begins June 11, Johnson said.
Rosendale town officials announced in March that the 280,000-gallon outdoor pool, which is at the Rosendale Recreation Center on state Route 32, will be closed this summer because of damage to its lining.
Johnson said the YMCA wanted Rosendale residents to have a place to swim for the summer, rather than looking at a dry pool.
“A lot of people were being displaced,” Johnson added of the Rosendale pool closure.
Rosendale residents can also take advantage of a one-week free trial pass to the YMCA before deciding whether they want to become members, Johnson said. He said if they like the facility, then they can do a monthly membership or join for the summer or longer.
The YMCA offers family and individual memberships, Johnson said. He said the regular monthly rates are: $68 for a full family, which includes two adults and up to five children; $52.50 a month for a single parent and their children; $45.25 for an adult; $40.50 for a senior citizen; $30 for an individual age 19 to 22; and $22 a month for a teenager between the ages of 12 and 18.
